A premium flooring manufacturer under Shaw Industries Group, Anderson Tuftex, has published its inaugural industry trend analysis titled The 2027 Floor Forecast. The study analyzes evolving tastes among property owners and design professionals, focusing on key factors like resilience, eco-friendliness, and aesthetic appeal in residential flooring selections.
The company collaborated with The Harris Poll to collect input from 512 affluent homeowners and 251 interior designers actively involved in flooring projects. The research uncovered consumer priorities, spending habits, and expectations within the flooring market.
Quality and Longevity Take Center Stage
More than half of the surveyed designers noted their clients have become significantly more willing to allocate funds toward home enhancements. Buyers now emphasize durability and extended service life above other considerations. Professionals weigh performance characteristics, visual appeal, and environmental impact when advising customers on flooring options.
Durability Influences Purchase Decisions
Consumer surveys reveal durability remains the top consideration when choosing flooring materials. Nearly seven out of ten participants seek products with a minimum 15-year lifespan. 56% would pay extra for flooring that maintains its quality over time, while 63% believe proper flooring creates a strong first impression for visitors. These results show demand for products that merge functional longevity with attractive design.
Emerging Trends in Hardwood and Carpet
Hardwood flooring selections increasingly reflect preferences for organic textures and artisanal quality. Among designers, 52% observed rising demand for uniform, solid-surface finishes, while the same proportion identified light-colored options as growing in popularity.
Homeowners expressed interest in unique design patterns. 43% favored wide-plank installations, and 17% preferred mixed-pattern arrangements. Color choices leaned toward warmer hues, with 37% opting for natural and honey tones. 13% selected medium or chocolate brown shades, while 11% chose smoky midtones featuring gray, charcoal, or brown undertones.
The analysis also highlighted increasing carpet interest, particularly in performance-oriented comfort solutions. 57% of homeowners prioritized high-traffic carpeting, with 54% valuing pet-stain resistance and 51% preferring solid color options.
Design professionals emphasized performance features and natural fibers. The survey found 31% consistently recommend performance carpet, and 29% always suggest wool varieties. Warm neutral tones led color preferences at 28%, followed by earthy, nature-inspired shades (16%) and cool gray options (13%).
Sustainability and Future Developments
While environmental considerations play a role in flooring decisions, consumer attitudes remain divided. 60% of homeowners view sustainability as a key purchase factor, yet 52% admitted they are “not too worried” about the issue. 39% believed most flooring products offer similar eco-benefits.
Among designers, 80% reported clients regularly inquire about sustainable options, and 43% proactively suggest eco-friendly products. The findings suggest opportunities exist for manufacturers to better educate consumers about environmental differences between products.
Anderson Tuftex stated the research will inform future product innovation and business strategies.
Smart Flooring and Carpet Trends
Smart flooring technologies are gaining interest, with features like integrated sensors, click-lock systems, and temperature control identified as emerging areas. Additionally, 65% of interior designers predict carpet will increase in popularity over the next three years.
